The Facts

Now lets take a look at the facts. Everybody agrees that if you're getting a lot of rain, it's Washington rain, that horrible Washington rain, right?  Not really.  If you look it up, New Hampshire gets more rain than Washington, though New Hampshirites are often complaining about the Washington rain they have.

Here is what I found:

Average Rainfall (in./yr.)
Washington - 27.66
New Hampshire - 36.53
(And in case anybody was wondering-- South Dakota - 17.47)
(Louisiana gets the most per year at 59.74 and Arizona the least at 7.11)

This might not be completely accurate, but I also looked up precipitation amounts from cities in various locations from each state and averaged them and got similar results. As you can see, New Hampshire has a higher precipitation amount than Washington. So when its pouring down rain, shall we start saying, "that horrible New Hampshire weather!"? Or, we could just not complain at all. Enjoy it, go puddle jumping, go for a walk in the rain, listen to it pounding on the roof. And if there is no rain, you can't see any beautiful rainbows like the one we saw yesterday.  Yes, it was faint, but it was still pretty, as rainbows always are.  Especially when we remember it as the symbol of God's Promise (Genesis 9).  Lets thank God for all He has done for us instead of complaining about the weather.

"Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content."  -Philippians 4:11

  1. I looked it up one time too, and NH does get more rain than Washington! I can't remember, but I think I compared Vancouver and Rindge/New Ipswich to make it really comparable because Tri-Cities would bring the state average down. We get less than 10 inches in a year here, but this spring has been so rainy! It seems like this year so far has been the rainiest since I moved here 8 years ago! Even Seattle, that has a reputation for rain, doesn't get that much compared to other cities.

  2. Just curious what the average rainfall is for Yacolt/Amboy, Battle Ground, New Ipswich/Rindge? Our average is 16 per year so that would bring the average down for the state-

  3. Yacolt/BG/Hockinson - 52, New Ipswich - 44. Obviously they are using the same info for Yacolt/BG/Hockinson, which is very incorrect!!! We get way more rain than they do in the flatlands. - Elva

  4. What a great verse and pictures for the rainy weather we've been having! Even Gramma was feeling gloomy about it and she hardly ever complains about anything:)

  6. Yeah, I'll be happy, too, when summer comes! But while, it's still spring, we might as well enjoy spring:) I love Washington and Washington weather more than any other place, despite the rain.
