Backbreaking Wednesday

Today was a busy, long bread-making day!! After I brought the kids to the bus, I got started on making bread. Almost 11 hours later I pulled the last batch from the oven. All in all, I made 48 loaves of bread, 15 dozen rolls and some frosting. I made 12 loaves each of white bread, rye bread, coffee bread and cinnamon raisin bread. Some of it was for a couple orders, but I got a full freezer out of the deal:)

Along about 5:00 I got a call from David. He’d just gotten a call from a guy who has strawberries, who owed David for some trapping. He had three flats of strawberries for us. I told him “Bring it on; there’s not much going on around here!!!” They were absolutely gorgeous berries – just huge! It is nice to have some fresh, local berries. Because of our lack of sun, they are not the sweetest:( That’s OK – I’m going to be making freezer jam from most of them. I’ll put plenty of sugar in! Tonight we had strawberries and ice cream for bed-snack …. Nummy, nummy:)

This week is lasting a month, or so it feels. I’ve been thinking a couple nights that tomorrow is Friday and tomorrow still isn’t Friday! Oh, well, there's still lots to get done this week.

Love, Elva

  3. Yum, it all looks so good! I need to bake some bread but I always put it off. I've gotten strawberries from the grocery store when they've been on sale a few times, so I have some bags in the freezer now, but still want to get a few flats and freeze some and make some jam too.
