Crafter's Weekly - Week 4

This week's challenge at AJcrazies was to make a child's toy.  I've had my project in mind for awhile, but since it required my husband's help, it didn't get done until Saturday night:)  (In all reality, it's not completed yet; it just looks like it is!)

When I was taking down calendars on January 1st, I decided it was such a waste to throw away my nice ones.  After all, they costed a pretty penny!  I decided to save them and make some children's puzzles. 

I just needed David to cut me some blocks to put them on!  We didn't have the wood, so I stopped by Parr to get a 4" x 8" x 8' piece of lumber.  He cut that down for me into 3 1/2" square blocks, and was able to make 50 of them!  For this project I used 9.  Clint sanded the sides down for me, but I realized when I went to use them that the edges weren't done.  When I asked for the sander, Reid found it for me, and then proceeded to sand them all.  I guess it ended up being a family affair!

I cut my picture into nine 3 3/8" squares.  Then I got my Mod Podge and spread that on one side.  I then added the picture and spread more Mod Podge on top.  By the time I got all 9 done I was able to turn the block and do another side, until all 6 sides were done with 6 different calendar pictures.  I still need to do at least one more coat of Mod Podge to finish them.

Next time I'd take a picture of all my pictures first, so I could put a copy with the puzzle.  I was trying to make the puzzle tonight and had a tough time, not knowing what the picture was supposed to look like.  I still can put the finished puzzle pictures with it.
